Dantes Gastromed

With the heatwave in San Diego this past weekend, we were on the hunt for the freshest food we could find. A couple of google searches later we bumped into Dantes Gastromed's Facebook and saw that they were going to be having live music so we chose to go here for date night. The band was amazing and played a variety of music genres that complemented the vibe of the restaurant perfectly.

When receiving our menus my eyes instantly looked at their drinks. They have a wide variety of mixed drinks, wines, and beers which is great because they have something for everyone. Deciding what to eat was the hard part, like always we chose to get 3 different things and share them so that way we would be able to taste more things. We started off with the freshest things on the menu: the Coktelillo and the Tonne & Gamberi.

The Coktelillo is a combination of raw tuna and shrimp with a cocktail sauce composed of beer and mezcal. To our surprise our waitress came back with our food in a big shot glass and a complimentary Lagunitas IPA. The sauce was definitely something unique to our taste buds which was what stood out the most.

Tonne & Gamberi was by far my favorite thing we had (excluding the blackberry mojito I devoured). It was a very well presented Tartare of raw tuna and shrimp with a sweet and sour sauce. The top of the tartare was covered in delicious avocado and masago.

To finish off, we ordered the Grilled Octopus which was Jorge's favorite. It was surrounded by sweet potato and beet chips and served with a tomatillo, chile pasilla, and pesto sauce. The first bite of it was a bit spicy but when you get the perfect combination of the pesto with the chile pasilla your mouth will instantly water. Grilling the octopus over coals gives it a smokey and delicious finishing taste.

Whether it's for breakfast, lunch, or dinner Dantes Gastromed has got it all.
